Eyewear manufacturer Marcolin has hired the boss of its competitor Marchon to head its French business. The Italian group, which notably manufactures eyewear under licence for Tom Ford, Balenciaga, Moncler, Roberto Cavalli, Tod's, Dsquared2 and Diesel, has announced the appointment of Eric Lefort as General Manager France.

Lefort worked since 2002 for rival US eyewear group Marchon, for which he oversaw the French market, as well as being in charge of the business in the UK and Benelux for the last seven years. He formerly worked with ophthalmic optics giant Essilor.

Lefort now reports to Antonio Jové, who leads Marcolin's EMEA business. Lefort's arrival is part and parcel of Marcolin's efforts to consolidate its organisation, led by Massimo Renon. In the autumn, the eyewear group announced the appointment of Giovanni Zoppas at the head of the joint-venture company created with LVMH.

Marcolin claimed it sold approximately 14 million pairs of eyeglasses and sunglasses in 2016.
