Announced back in May, the collaboration between the Opéra de Paris and the Balmain fashion house is now taking shape, with a first video -- filmed by James Bort -- offering a glimpse of what's in store from "Renaissance," the new ballet from choreographer Sébastien Bertaud.

As well as offering a sneak preview of the "Renaissance" ballet, being staged at the French capital's Opéra Garnier June 13-18, the video also gives a first look at the costumes designed by Olivier Rousteing, creative director of the Balmain fashion house. The featured costumes are worn by several renowned dancers: Amandine Albisson, Audric Bezard, Dorothée Gilbert, Nais Duboscq and Thomas Docquir.

The costumes are the perfect embodiment of what Sébastien Bertaud sought to capture: a blend of innovation and traditional techniques, echoing the concept he wanted to explore in the ballet -- a classical style, but firmly rooted in modern times.

This is reflected in pieces with a modern style, created using the characteristic skills and expertise of the Balmain fashion house. Flesh-colored technical pieces come covered in gold and silver embellishments. Shimmering rhinestones, pearls and beads are notably seen embroidered directly onto tights and bodysuits.

The costumes feature in the "Renaissance" ballet, showing June 13-18 at Opéra Garnier in Paris.
