Low cost retailer Primark has been growing in Europe at a steady pace, spreading from its Irish base first to the UK and now to locations in Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Holland and more than ever in Spain.

15 out of its 200 European stores are based in Spain, employing 2,000 workers (30,000 across the continent). There are just one or two stores in all other European countries except in the UK and Ireland.

While the Scots rejoice over a 75,000 flagship store announced on Thursday to be set-up in Edinburgh by Winter 2011, Spaniards welcome 3 new stores (Alicante, Castellon and Las Palmas).

"Primark is experiencing an excellent year with particularly strong performance in Spain", the company revealed during the presentation of their financial results for the fiscal year ending in June, for which the retailer gained a 17% rise in sales revenue.
