UK-based Smiley and Italy's Moschino got a major publicity boost at the Grammy awards on Sunday with Bronx-born rapper, singer, songwriter, and media personality Cardi B wearing Smiley-Moschino merchandise during her performance of Finesse. And the fact that she performed with the night’s big winner Bruno Mars also helped focus more attention on her.

Thats the kind of publicity money can’t buy with viewing figures of almost 20 million in the US alone and a much wider audience tuning in globally.

Cardi B and Bruno Mars appeared in full 90s-inspired looks that reflected the In Living Colour feel of the track’s music video. Cardi wore a custom Smiley jacket, from the brand’s ongoing Moschino collaboration and the look was a conversation driver on social media both during and after the event, along with questions over whether or not she was lip-synching.

The Moschino outfit also received widespread coverage in the lifestyle and fashion media.

Smiley marketing director Matt Winton said it’s important to get the “in the right place at the right time at one of show business’s leading annual events.”
