Balmain - Women's ready to wear show Spring/Summer 2018 in Paris (with interviews)

Creative Director : Olivier Rousteing Atmosphere: Olivier Rousteing carries out his dream, that of showing at the Opéra Garnier of Paris, which is strewn with white roses for the occasion. A collection strongly inspired by this place and the ballet, with Natalia Vodianova, Natasha Poly or Alesssandro Ambrosio on the catwalk and a front row which seats football stars Dani Alves and Neymar. Collection: Always strong, energetic, with this time a dominance of black and white, without forgetting the brightness and flamboyancy. A certain French classicism, with many proposals of jackets, very chic, and also vinyl and silver, frills for the base of the skirts and dresses that make us think of dancer’s tutus, transparency and an arabesque effect for the tops which leaves skin uncovered as well as the rounded cuts which recall the Opera arcades. Colour appears at the end, with gathering effects and flowers which spring from the dresses and skirts which blend texture and embroidery. To note: The white Balmain t-shirt, in the show and worn by the models afterwards + the silver dungarees or the futuristic jumpsuit with long sleeves + the number of top models who came to walk in the show.Interviews:Olivier Rousteing :I think that the Opéra is symbolic of the fact that there are no limits, the construction of the opera really represents the flamboyant aspect of France, the incredible French heritage with no limits. Twenty years ago, I was a child and I came with my parents and I fell in love with this place and my dream has always been to do something here and today to have the chance to live my dream and also to have such an incredible audience, it’s a child’s dream.I really tried to reflect on what type of woman would be able to dress like me, it was an interesting exercise as a designer to do that and something I’ve never done before. Before it was more the fantasy of this woman that I had in my head and today it’s more the fantasy of the woman that I would be if I were her. Paris is full of arcades, the Palais Royale, the Rue du Rivoli are full of arcades so I simply had a need to work on these rounded constructions. Karolina Kurkova:So today the music was a little bit soft but yet very deep, I think it reflects the collection. There were Soft touches with all the little poofy sleeves and ruffles but yet the leather tight boots, very high, his belts. So he always plays with that softness of a woman but yet with the strength of a woman.Claudia Schiffer:I thought it was absolutely beautiful, it just reminded me very much of for example, Gianni Versace who also loved very much women and femininity and beauty come together with elegance and I think Olivier has just got it right. It’s for the woman, for the feminine woman and everything is so detailed and well-tailored and the craftsmanship is incredible and he’s such a lovely man on top of that. Great package.
