Like the e-commerce company's previous smart speaker expansions in Italy and Spain, this new fleet of Alexa speakers are able to speak and understand the unique linguistic features of Mexico. In addition, Amazon said it will further expand the launch by working with developers around the world to incorporate Alexa into devices made for Mexican customers.

The new Mexican speakers will also be programmed with knowledge of local culture, geography and skills, or apps made by local third-party developers that are compatible with Alexa.

“We’ve built an entirely new experience from the ground up that honors Mexican culture, enabling customers to just ask to play their favorite music, get the news and weather, control their smart home, set reminders, enjoy local skills, and more," said Toni Reid, vice president of Amazon Alexa, in a release. "Plus, in addition to Echo, device makers like Sonos, Bose, and Harman Kardon are also launching devices with Alexa built-in. This experience has been custom-made for Mexico.”

Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Plus, Echo Spot, and the Amazon Smart Plug are available for pre-order in Mexico now and will begin shipping next week.

Amazon's smart speakers are now distributed in over 80 countries, including the U.S., U.K., Germany, India, Japan, Peru, Greece and Chile.
