Known for pieces that exhibit superior craftsmanship, cheeky motifs and creative detailing, British accessories designer Anya Hindmarch just expanded her offerings to include a customizable “build a bag” concept launching at Barneys New York on Madison Avenue, as well as online.

Built on the belief that each bag should be as beautiful and as celebrated as a piece of jewelry, the personalized, DIY bag idea allows consumers to choose a base, handles and accessories from a wide variety of materials and embellishments (think natural python, mink, tassels and stickers) synonymous with the Anya Hindmarch brand. The company continuously works with workshops in London, Italy and Spain to ensure the crafting techniques are cutting-edge and that all materials used are top quality.

Hindmarch's success is built upon many accomplishments, such as being the first accessories designer to hold an on-schedule show at London Fashion Week, growing a global brand into 50 stores since 1987 and serving as a UK Trade Ambassador. But when it comes to accessorizing, it’s the subtle touch of humor that puts Hindmarch on the sartorial map. It was just back in March that the Brit designer partnered with Smiley for a campaign aimed at “making the world a happier place.”

With Barney serving as the initial global exclusive retailer of the build a bag concept, the brand will continue to roll out customized merchandise to the Anya Hindmarch flagship stores in LA, New York, London, Seoul and Tokyo on May 15 before moving to Shanghai in June.
