Burberry has this week launched a capsule collection that in some ways sums up the current approach of the brand, combining both its strong fashion focus and its heritage appeal.

The Future Archive launch comprises a limited-edition capsule collection “inspired by the brand’s rich heritage” and including “modern Burberry signatures”.

The team under Riccardo Tisci has “reinterpreted” classics within the Burberry archive to create “a modern reflection of the storied history of the house”. A small selection of pieces are available with an edition number as “a part of Burberry’s new heritage”.

What this all means in practice is a collection rooted in outerwear, from diamond-quilted coats to bomber and field jackets. But the capsule also includes tailored jackets and trousers, as well as accessories from bucket hats to backpacks, scarves to Cube bags – for both men and women.

The launch comes with a campaign shot by Alessio Bolzoni and “set in a contemporary space, which celebrates the dualistic contrast between modernity and timelessness”. It features models Jourdan Dunn (who has been a big presence in a number of UK brand campaigns in the past few months) and Adrian Chabada.

The collection launches this week in a selection of Burberry stores, as well as on the brand’s webstore and through Mytheresa.
