Luxury apparel maker Canada Goose has opened a flagship store in Montreal. The largest store in Canada to date, it is 8,000 square feet and located in the heart of downtown Montreal at 1020 Ste-Catherine Street West.

It opened to some protests from animal rights activists over the weekend, a common occurrence previously seen at Canada Goose store openings across the country.

The new store was first announced back in June, where the company also announced openings in Short Hills, N.J., and Vancouver, British Columbia, as part of its global retail expansion.

Among its store features, the Montreal flagship houses Canada’s first ‘cold room’ where customers can test the brand’s parkas in temperatures as low as -25 Celsius.

Meanwhile, the store design weaves together the brand’s heritage along with local aesthetics and familiar Canada Goose touches, including polar bear sculptures made from serpentinite by Inuit artists, as a nod to the company’s 10-year relationship with Polar Bears International.

“We’ve always felt a special connection to Quebec; it feels like our second home. For years, we’ve been making some of Canada Goose’s most iconic products at our manufacturing facility in Boisbriand. Now, we’re proud to further our commitment to the people of Quebec by opening a new store on Rue Sainte Catherine, the center of world-class shopping in beautiful Montréal,” the company wrote on its website.

Canada Goose has been in expansion mode since going public in 2017, venturing into retail and expanding into new product categories.

This is the company’s 11 location and fourth in Canada.

It officially opened its first retail store in its hometown of Toronto at Yorkdale Shopping Centre in fall 2016. The opening was followed by a second location in November 2017, at the CF Chinook Centre in Calgary, and earlier this month, in Vancouver.

Internationally, it operates retail stores in cities such as London, New York, Boston, Chicago, and Tokyo, which is operated by its distribution partner.

Most recently, Canada Goose also announced its latest foray into Greater China, which the company has noted as a major market. It launched on the Tmall e-commerce platform, opened a Hong Kong location at the IFC mall and launched a pop-up in Beijing.
