To make the next edition more stimulating, and showcase new concepts to visitors, commercial real estate show Mapic has announced the creation of the Mapic Academy. The initiative’s first edition will recognise five new chains or brands wishing to open their first store.

The Mapic show takes place at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes - E. HAUTIER / IMAGE&CO

The next edition of the Cannes-based trade show, scheduled on November 28-30 2023, aims to “identify and launch new innovative brands in their respective commercial landscapes,” operating in the retail, leisure and catering sectors, said Francesco Pupillo, managing director of Mapic.

The initiative's winner will receive a cash prize, whose value has not been disclosed, and the chance to open a temporary store in a shopping mall operated by property developer Nhood. “The five finalists will also benefit from mentoring and support from a network of industry leaders during a session in Paris in September. Finally, the finalists will be invited to Mapic, where they will exhibit in a dedicated section within the event, and will be showcased on all advertising channels,” said the show’s organiser RX France in a press release

Mapic Academy is open to applications on the Mapic website until August 4. Applicants must be companies less than five years old, with no more than one physical store already open, and with their registered office in Europe. The winners will be revealed at the Mapic Awards gala evening during the event.

Mapic’s 28th edition is expecting 6,000 visitors and 1,800 exhibitors, and will introduce for the first time a section called Sustainability Lab, designed to “present to participants the solutions needed to pursue the goal of reducing carbon emissions.”
