Courrèges opens revamped flagship, as new designer Nicolas di Felice unveils first ideas

Well, there is the making of, and the making out. Which was very definitely the case at the first peek at the creations of the recently appointed artistic director of Courrèges, Nicolas di Felice, released Friday.

They say that Paris is the city of romance, and it clearly is in di Felice’s vision of fashion, where a cast of chic modernist bohemians kiss passionately throughout his one-minute long video.

A decidedly happy crew attired in a smartly re-edited selection of iconic looks from Di Felice for Courrèges, the French brand that invented futurism in fashion.

Holding hands, embracing dreamily or French kissing with abandon – guy and girl, guy on guy, girl to girl – dressed in a natty mix of the black crinkly boleros; white space age miniskirts, sleek air hostess blazers and jeans to the sounds of Opus (Four Tet Remix) by Swedish producer and DJ Eric Prydz.

The house also just renovated its flagship store at 40 rue François 1er in the Golden Triangle of Paris shopping, under the direction of Belgian architect Bernard Dubois.

Playing with the house’s historic codes, Dubois’ project for Courrèges develops a dreamlike monochrome interior landscape, with sound muffled by thick carpets and curved walls. And adding a cozier element with plush dressing rooms; juxtaposed by a series of mirror games inspired by the codes of clubbing, a universe dear to the heart of the new designer.
