Dick's Sporting Goods hires Paul Gaffney as Chief Technology Officer

Dick’s Sporting Goods on Tuesday announced the appointment of Paul Gaffney as Chief Technology Officer, effective November 20.

As CTO, the Harvard University graduate will be responsible for the sporting goods retailer’s technology, including infrastructure, e-commerce platforms and new and developing digital platforms.
 
Gaffney joins Dick’s Sporting Goods from Home Depot, where he most recently served as SVP of Information Technology and was responsible for the retailer’s software engineering, design and applications. Prior to working at Home Depot, Gaffney served in executive roles at Staples, Charles Schwab, Office Depot, AAA Northern California, and Desktone.

Dick’s Sporting Goods announced the appointment of Gaffney along with issuing its third quarter results. The retailer reported a 7.4% net sales increase to $1.94 billion and a 0.9% decrease in consolidated same store sales.

Fourth quarter consolidated same store sales are expected to decline in the low single-digits and full year consolidated same store sales are expected to be in range of flat to a low single-digit decline.
