German perfumery group Douglas, owner among others of French chain Nocibé, has recently appointed Sander van der Laan as CEO. The new executive was the former CEO of Dutch hard-discount retailer Action. He succeeds Tina Müller, who has stepped down from her role after five years in charge of Douglas, and joined the group’s supervisory board.

“Tina Müller has laid first-rate foundations: she established Douglas as a digital player, tripling our e-tail revenue and achieving record sales after steering the company safely through the pandemic. We thank her for her exceptional commitment to the group and its employees,” said Alexander Dibelius, CEO of CVC Germany, the group that is Douglas’s majority shareholder.

For the last six years, van der Laan was at the helm of Action, leading the retailer to grow hugely in Europe, with sales increasing from €2 billion to €5 billion.

At Douglas, his mission will be to boost the group’s profitability, optimise the e-tail channel and fully integrate Douglas’s portfolio of pharmacies. In February, Douglas acquired Disapo.de, a website specialised in selling healthcare products.

In the 2020-21 financial year, Douglas, which operates 1,900 stores, generated a revenue of €3.1 billion.
