Following a successful 2016, the Los Angeles-based brand has been acquired by entrepreneur Rob Gough. As the brand’s new CEO, Gough plans to double the label’s sales within a year.

In a rare occurrence for a streetwear label, Gough purchased Dope with an all-cash offer. Gough began eyeing the brand in 2009 and decided to purchase the company after seeing it break its sales record.

“Dope has managed to stay ahead of the trends and design great clothes for a decade. The team is phenomenal, the IP the company owns is phenomenal, and there are so many opportunities to turn Dope into a billion dollar business,” Gough said in a statement.

To develop the brand, Gough plans to grow Dope’s online presence, expand into womenswear and smoking accessories, and use the brand’s trademarks to forge new licensing deals. Dope currently earns $10 million in sales each year, a number Gough claims he will double in 12 months. “Dope is an incredible brand that has already experienced tremendous success and I see the potential for so much more,” he said.

Gough has made a name for himself acquiring and selling companies to Silicon Valley. He previously helped footwear retailer Finish Line grow its online business.

Dope was founded in 2007 and has its flagship store in Los Angeles’ Fairfax neighborhood. In addition to its LA store and online shop, the line is sold in boutiques throughout the United States.
