Peter Ruis, the UK fashion executive who used to run Jigsaw and was Executive Buying & Brand Director at John Lewis, is relocating to Canada to run Indigo. He’ll become president at the country’s largest books and lifestyle retailer.

The company also sells a large number of fashion products and said he brings to Indigo “a strong digital and omnichannel track record, with over 30 years of retail experience”.

Ruis was most recently Managing Director of Anthropologie URBN Group, “where he shaped a unique position for the retailer as it expanded internationally”.

And while at John Lewis he was credited with transforming the department store chain during one of its most dynamic periods and doubling its market share, He’s also the exec behind the award-winning John Lewis Christmas ad.

Currently based in London, he’s now moving to Toronto and will lead the executive team, “fundamentally reshaping Indigo as a Living with Intention company, and transforming the Indigo business model while elevating the brand and driving profitable growth”, we’re told.

He’ll report to CEO Heather Reisman who said it’s a key appointment as the company itself changes.
