Brevity is the new approach at the Fédération française de la couture, du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode (the French Federation of Fashion and of Ready-to-Wear Couturiers and Fashion Designers). Parisian fashion's highest representative body continues its make-over, after adding to its website and digital tools, and launching the Paris Fashion Week app last year. It is now the turn of the federation's name, which will change to something simpler and shorter.

From 1st July 2017 the new name will be 'Fédération de la haute couture et de la mode' (the Federation of haute couture and fashion). It is a more concise version, which even drops the reference to France. The reasoning is that, by definition, haute couture is something that belongs uniquely to France, also because the denomination is legally protected.

The French Federation of Fashion and of Ready-to-Wear Couturiers and Fashion Designers is currently led by the President of the Puig group's fashion division, Ralph Toledano (the federation's President) and by Pascal Morand (the federation's Executive President).

The federation was created in 1973 and groups together the haute couture association, comprising the fifteen or so fashion labels eligible to use the 'haute couture' denomination, the association of ready-to-wear couturiers and fashion designers, representing women's ready-to-wear labels and designers, and the men's fashion association, comprising all the major labels active in menswear.
