H&M announces Mugler collab to launch this spring

H&M had big — if brief — news on Wednesday as it announced that its next designer collaboration will be with the house of Mugler.

The collection, directed by Mugler’s creative director Casey Cadwallader, “will encapsulate the unique and vibrant spirit of Mugler,” we’re told. It will be available online and in selected H&M stores this spring.

That’s all we know for now, but it’s certainly an intriguing link-up given the powerful design signature of the Mugler label with its bodycon silhouettes and full-on sexiness. The collection is fairly likely to focus heavily on figure-defining pieces and it will be interesting to see how H&M adapts the intricate detailing for which Mugler is known to the mass-market.

Of course, it’s done that before. Its long history collaborations stretches back nearly two decades during which time it has launched collections with a variety of big names. They’ve included other labels known for their high-octane sexiness and bodycon looks such as Balmain and Roberto Cavalli.

H&M certainly knows how to pick of-the-moment labels to collaborate with and Mugler can be said to be that. From its recent takeover of the Selfridges Corner Shop to last month’s RTW show during Paris Couture Week, it’s a guaranteed headline-grabber and very in demand. Fashionnetwork.com’s Godfrey Deeny described that show as “pretty much a triumph” and Cadwallader told him that “we’ve enjoyed triple-digit growth for the past three years,” underlining the upwards direction of the label’s current trajectory.

For now though, no details of the H&M link-up — such as the categories being covered and the launch date — are available with H&M simply saying “more information will be shared later”.
