Hunter has unveiled a collection of leather backpacks featuring unique, tongue-in-cheek hand-drawn artworks in collaboration with beauty editor Isamaya Ffrench.

The limited-edition collaboration is based on Hunter’s Original Rubberised Leather Backpack, a newer style that has quickly become a bestselling piece.

Customised with hand-drawn designs that invoke prolific tourist paraphernalia of the 90s, the backpacks reflect the spirit of the Hunter brand and its British sense of humour.

“In my opinion, Hunter is a high-end brand, excelling in its use of technical fabrics and well made, good quality products, so I wanted to design something that contrasted with that,” says Isamaya about working with Hunter. “I used naïve, hand drawn images or ironic writing, I feel like this gives the bags a new dynamic and sense of fun!”

The former i-D Magazine beauty editor has been described by Hunter as “one of the most exciting emerging talents in the fashion industry today.” She has worked with numerous high-profile photographers, including Sølve Sundsbø, Tim Walker, David Sims, Richard Burbridge, Tyrone Lebon, Miles Aldridge and Nick Knight, while her surrealist make-up looks have appeared in publications such as i-D, Vogue Italia, British Vogue, LOVE, Dazed, and W Magazine.

She is currently a creative artistic consultant for Tom Ford Beauty, but her talent has also led her to collaborate on music videos with artists such as Kanye West, Katy Perry and Rihanna.

“Isamaya not only is known as one of the industry’s most agenda-setting make-up talents, she’s also a true multidisciplinary artist. I felt that her imaginative concepts and her sense of humour was very much in-tune with Hunter,” says Hunter creative director Alasdhair Willis.

The collection launches with a pop-up space at Dover Street Market New York during fashion week, and is available for pre-order on the brand’s online site. It will be also available at Dover Street Market London and Tokyo shortly after.
