South London outlet mall Icon Outlet at The O2 said on Monday that sales during August reached record levels compared to the pre-pandemic period in 2019. Sales increased by 24%, average transaction value grew by 11%, and footfall rose by 10% two-year-on-year.

The mall’s operator said the fresh record was driven by the addition of appealing new stores to the mix, including Boss, Joseph and Next Outlet.

And despite the lingering effects of the pandemic that mean workers commuting via the nearby tube station are still at a low level and tourism to Britain remains muted, last month was the third best trading month at Icon Outlet since it opened in October 2018. Sales were also up 22% on a like-for-like basis.

The O2 entertainment district in Greenwich, South London, also saw strong attendance in August with a combination of live events and consumers’ desire to dine out helping to drive footfall to the mall. The O2 is the world’s most popular music, entertainment, and leisure venue and that’s good news for any retail site located there.

The company also said that more names are set to join the line-up of 60 “superstar brands”.
