Luger brings a wealth of retail and non-executive director expertise to the board, with strong experience in digital commerce, digital transformation and marketing.

She's currently a non-exec at New Look and her extensive career also includes Managing Director at Debenhams and CEO at The Original Factory Shop and N Brown Group.

She will also take up a position on the JD Remuneration Committee.

Shapland, one of Britain’s most experienced retail executives and a former Sainsbury’s finance chief, will join the board with immediate effect, taking a seat on its Audit and Risk Committee.

He also has extensive experience in retail and consumer businesses over the past 35 years as both an executive and non-executive director.

In recent years he has held a variety of Chair and Audit Chair roles in FTSE 250 and FTSE 100 businesses including Poundland. He's currently Chair of Topps Tiles as well as being Chair/director of a number of privately owned businesses. In his executive career he's also been CFO of Superdrug and a number of divisions for The Burton Group.

JD chair Andrew Higginson said both appointments bring a wealth of retail expertise, strengthen the JD board's experience and complement the board's existing skills and knowledge.”
