The Marc Jacobs company’s new strategy, with the end of its secondary line Marc by Marc Jacobs to the profit of the Marc Jacobs brand itself, has certain retail implications.

And thus the 2153 square foot Marc Jacobs store, which was opened nine years ago in Paris’ Palais Royal neighborhood, recently closed, “due to weak traffic at the longtime location,” said a spokesman for the fashion house. That’s even while the neighborhood has seen the arrival of many brands, such as Stella McCartney, Rick Owens and Acne Studio.

The retailer is nonetheless reopening the store that will carry the label’s entire range in another Parisian neighborhood.

To date, there are no plans for closing the men’s and women’s Marc by Marc Jacobs stores on Marché Saint-Honoré, which incidentally sees more traffic.

The changes will of course affect or have already affected other cities. The Marc by Marc Jacobs store in Milan, for example, will close, although it will reopen as a Marc Jacobs brand store.

The American brand, which is controlled by the French company LVMH, has decided to focus on one label. It will, nevertheless, incorporate entry-level products into its range. The entire range will only get one fashion show per season from now on, under the heading Marc Jacobs.
