Luxury outerwear maker Moncler has opened a new store in Melbourne, its premier stand alone store in Australia.

Located inside Melbourne's Chadstone Shopping Centre, the Australia flagship spans 200 square metres over one floor. Designed in collaboration with architectural studio Gilles & Boissier, the in store outfit continues the established partnership between Moncler and the design studio, as seen in other store openings like the one in London, San Francisco and New York.

Floors and ceilings are cut with boiserie oak, under white marble walls and burnished brass, with a ceiling of red and beige leather which "proves the standout design element of the new boutique," said Moncler in a press release.

Outside, the store facade is decorated with white guilloche marble and burnished brass, and sports two large display windows.

The opening is the latest in the Italian brand's retail expansion, which has recently hit the US and UK. In Australia, Moncler is stepping out of ski resorts and in to one of Australia's fashion capitals.

“I am absolutely enthusiastic about this opening, and that Moncler is entering the Australian retail chain, too,” said Remo Ruffini, President and CEO of Moncler, in a statement.

“It’s a country that I believe can become important for our brand. We have planned to further consolidate our presence on both sides of the distribution channels, both retail and wholesale, through opening this shop-in-shop”.

The new Melbourne boutique will house all Moncler pret-a-porter collections and accessories for men and women -- Moncler Grenoble, Moncler Enfant, Moncler Lunettes and Moncler Gamme Bleu.

In early February this year, Moncler said sales rose 18 percent in 2016, lifted by sales in China, Korea and the United States. Revenues were 1.04 billion euros ($1.1 billion) and comparable store sales were up 7 percent.
