Reed Midem to launch a commercial property event in Shanghai

Professional trade fair organiser Reed Midem, whose roster includes Mapic in Cannes, which opened on Wednesday at the Palais des Festivals, Mipim in Cannes also, Mipim Asia, Mipim UK, and soon up, Mipim Japan, has just announced the launch of a new commercial property event in Shanghai. It will be held on 11 and 12 June, 2015 at the Intercontinental Hotel.

Filippo Rean, Director of the Reed Midem property division, Nathalie Depetro, Director of Mapic, and Lucy Wu, International Director of China Chain Store and Franchise association.

The event, called Retail Real Estate Market (RREM) brought by Mapic, like the Mapic event in Cannes aims to be both a platform for business and a place for conferences. The latter will look at commercial property market opportunities in China, new international chain concepts, China and digital distribution, Chinese chains aiming to expand abroad, etc. Although the event will not see traditional stands with exhibitors, the programme of conferences will hand over the microphone to companies to present their retail chains, services and shopping centres. "Mapic, like RREM, are places of transaction," pointed out Nathalie Depetro, Director of Mapic.

The choice of Shanghai seems more than logical given that the event is focused on the Chinese market and its diversity. "Our goal with this event is not to look at other Asian markets," explained Ms Depetro. "To do so, it is possible that we would have chosen a different location. But it wasn't logical to, for example, hold RREM in Singapore and have the Chinese come there to discuss the Chinese market!"

Plus, Reed is a leading organiser of events of this type in China, with some sixty to date. It may as well be said then that its Reed Midem branch is not launching RREM in Shanghai by chance next year and that the market was carefully reviewed. Especially, emphasises the organiser, given that Mapic currently has Chinese clients at Cannes who encouraged this initiative.

Entirely launched by Reed Midem, RREM even received some advice from Lucy Wu, Vice Secretary-General and International Director of China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA) and Qu De Jun, Vice President of Chinese group Wanda.
