Riviera inspires summer style as Harrods opens Celine pop-up, PLT launches capsule

Celine has this week opened a summer-themed pop-up inside Harrods in London, as well as an exhibition window display, focused on the summer 23 collection that was shown at a runway show in St Tropez late last year, near designer Heidi Slimane’s French home.

Celine

The Plein Soleil pop-up blends the beaches-and-sunshine feel of the French Riviera with Celine’s Parisian roots (more specifically, Saint-Germain-des-Prés) for a line-up of essentials that work as well in the city as on the beach.

The Rivera is clearly a key inspiration this year. This is perhaps due to travel getting almost back to normal, this being the first summer holiday season since governments and health authorities declared the pandemic officially over (even though Covid hasn’t gone away).

And the location is also cropping up in capsules for brands at all ends of the price scale.

For instance, at the same time as Harrods and Celine are drawing on it for their luxury celebration, mass-market brand PrettyLittleThing and its ambassador Molly Mae are also focused on the Cote d’Azur.

But first, Celine and Harrods.

The offer includes off-duty clothing, bags, espadrilles, sunglasses, belts, hair clips and other accessories, even pétanque sets, logo-adorned deckchairs and hammocks, with a number of pieces exclusive to Harrods.

The capsule has been shot by Slimane on American model Quinn Elin Mora in a supporting campaign.

The pop-up comes ahead of the label opening a permanent Celine Haute Parfumerie space in the store on 14 June, the day the summer pop-up closes.

Meanwhile, that PLT collection — or summer edit — is all about “channelling timeless glamour and elegance into your holiday style aesthetic”.

It means “figure-enhancing fits, effortless styling pieces and classic silhouettes in a neutral colour palette of soft earth tones, crochet feels and linen look styles”.

As with Celine, the co-ords are meant to work for multiple occasions from beach to eveningwear. And the offer comes with oversized sunglasses and gold accessories.

Prices range from £15 to £45.
