The Inditex group's flagship brand, Zara, is continuing on its path of moving upmarket. The repositioning of the brand towards a more premium segment has been slowly developing over the last few months, and has become one of the key elements of Marta Ortega's strategy as president of the Spanish company.

Following the launch of a limited collection with the Dutch luxury collective Kassl Editions in September 2021; the alliance with the South Korean firm Ader Error in December of that same year; the launch of high-end collections under the name Zara Studio; and high-profile collaborations with actress Charlotte Gainsbourg, the New York City Ballet and iconic model Kate Moss, Zara has now teamed up with the Cuban-American designer, Narciso Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, world renowned for the fragrances that bear his name, is considered to be one of the most celebrated designers of the 1990s, known for his minimalist designs, particularly the iconic lingerie dress he created for the wedding of his friend Carolyn Bessette Kennedy in 1996. After graduating from Parsons, the New Jersey-born designer worked for major fashion houses such as Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. However, it wasn't until 1998 that he founded his eponymous brand in New York.

"It's been great to go through the archive and revisit the things that we loved," said Rodriguez about his experience working alongside the design team of the fashion retailer headquartered in Arteixo (A Coruña, Spain).

"Working with Zara has been an eye-opening experience for me, as everyone is very aware of what's going on in the world and in fashion. They have really passionate and energetic people, who have been enthusiastic about every aspect of this collaboration. And that's been really fun for me: to see people who weren't around when these clothes first came out, and now they're celebrating and enjoying it as much as we did 20 years ago," added the American designer.

After having dressed prominent women such as Michelle Obama, Julianna Margulies and Sarah Jessica Parker throughout his career, Rodriguez has now chosen a high-profile model for the campaign of his collaboration with Zara. Photographed by Craig McDean, the Russian model Natalia Vodianova has been the face selected to embody the "acute architectural sense of the collection".

Already available in a selection of physical stores and on the brand's website, the timeless capsule collection offers a complete wardrobe, including a long black wool coat, a white oversized jumpsuit, a red midi dress, a wool bustier, and a satin top and wide pants set. With prices ranging from €69 to €299, all the pieces are reinterpretations of several vintage Narciso Rodriguez designs. The line is also accompanied by two pairs of high heels and a leather belt.

Founded in 1975, Zara currently distributes its products through an integrated network of physical and online stores in 200 different countries. In the first quarter of the year, Inditex achieved a record-breaking profit of €760 million and increased its sales by 36% to €6.74 billion.
