Amazon denies interest in Asos

The e-commerce giant Amazon dreams of buying the Asos retail site. At least according to the British Telegraph newspaper, which a few days ago reported that Amazon had examined the accounts of the online shopping site a few months ago, according to internal sources.

It is a story that acquires special meaning, given that Asos's new chairman starting in November is Brian McBride, former chief executive of Amazon UK. According to the Sunday Telegraph, a meeting took place in Seattle between Jeff Bezos, CEO and founder of Amazon, and Nick Roberton, the founder of Asos.

But now comes a new twist. Contacted by our British colleagues at Just-Style, Amazon actually denied any intention to buy Asos. "There is no truth in this," said a spokesman.

Asos offers nearly 50,000 brand items to British, American, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Australian markets. In July, the website boasted 8.7 million users and 16.6 million unique visitors per month.
