April 13 (Reuters) - Women's clothing retailer Dress Barn Inc (DBRN.O) forecast a third-quarter profit that beat market estimates, partly helped by its cost-cutting measures, sending its shares up 12 percent in trading after the bell.

For the quarter ending April 25, the company, which operates stores under the Maurices and Dressbarn brands, forecast earnings of 30 cents to 32 cents a share and expects same-store sales to remain flat.
Dress Barn said it expects to provide a narrower fiscal 2009 earnings outlook range when it reports third-quarter results on May 21.
In January, the company had forecast earnings in the range of 70 cents to 85 cents a share for the year.
Shares of the Suffern, New York-based company were trading at $15.70 after the bell. They closed at $14.01 Monday 13 April on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Poojya Trivedi in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
