Youth brand Jack Wills has made another senior appointment shortly after announcing its new chief marketing officer hire from Burberry.

This time, the newcomer is heading the merchandising team with David Wertheim replacing the outgoing Richard Fawdry who was in the role for two years during which time the company began its bounce-back from a downturn.

Wertheim has a strong track record in UK retail, much of it spent in the supermarkets sector. He was previously group operations director for general merchandise at Tesco for both the UK and Central Europe, and had earlier been merchandising director for clothing and then for general merchandise at the grocery giant that also sells the F&F clothing line.

He has also worked at Sainsbury’s where he was merchandising chief for womenswear as the supermarket giant grew its Tu Clothing line. He was previously at M&S and worked for the company for 20 years with roles across categories including women’s footwear, menswear and kidswear.

Just over a week ago Jack Wills named a chief marketing officer for the first time with Claire Waugh joining from Burberry. Its ability to attract top talent comes as the company has moved back into profit and sets itself up for what founder Peter Williams has called a “very exciting year”.
